It could be called indistinctly “socialism,” “mutualism,” “communism,” “associationism,” “cooperativism,” among others. Even though socialism is thought of as a working class movement, throughout its history a diverse array of social groups participated in it. Because it proposes to end all forms of oppression, socialism attracted the poor and workers, but also students, artists, small merchants and producers. More recently, socialism attracted national minorities and the racially oppressed, indigenous peoples and environmentalists, and everyone affected by capitalism.

Some believe that original accumulation was an inaugural stage to capitalism, a sort of stepping stone.
